Overview
The boy wonder from Arcane, Ekko is a champion that can be played in either mid or jungle, though jungle has generally been the more common role for him in recent years. Ekko is a rare AP jungler who has a ton of outplay potential thanks to his mobility and his ultimate, and he is a champion that can deal a ton of burst damage in tight corridors to unsuspecting enemies. Keys to Remember About Ekko
Chronobreak [R] does a ton of damage but can be very hard to hit, especially when enemies are aware of it. You can try to bait it with Zhonyas or by using vision and then sitting still for a bit -- either way enemies will be wary when chasing you. You can also use it to return to map instantly after basing to buy items if you are quick
Parallel Convergence [W] is difficult to hit so it's best to use it from fog of war before showing yourself -- you want to limit the amount of time an enemy has to react.
Strengths
Ekko has one of the widest range AoE stuns in the game if he’s able to land it -- Parallel Convergence [W] generally won’t hit everyone on the opposing team, but all it takes is one good stun to win you the game. Phase Dive [E] allows you to throw it from afar and then show up just in time for the stun to proc, and he’s then able to follow this up with a lot of burst from his Timewinder [Q]. Teams will also be deterred from chasing him lest they eat the full brunt of the damage from his Chronobreak [R]. He’s a champion that requires enemies to understand his kit or they’re going to be eating a ton of unexpected damage.
Weaknesses
The setup required to land a stun is difficult, and even if you place it well, teams will have time to respond to it. This often leads to situations where it might be easier to use the W bubble as a zoning tool -- telling the enemy that they cannot go to a place -- to force them into suboptimal routes that you can then punish them for. And while he does have a bit of a get out of jail card thanks to his R, the position he blinks back to his telegraphed, so if he’s caught out, there isn’t always an easy path out.
Game Plan
Early Game: You’re strong as a counter-engage option since it’s easier to hit people with your stun if they’re already mid fight, but generally Ekko will need to find flanks onto people to truly secure kills.
Mid Game: You can keep looking for fights or just look to shadow a side laner, as you can easily join a fight from offscreen to turn a 1v1 into a numbers advantage for you.
Late Game: Ekko scales well into late game and is a jungler who can look for 1v1s if necessary, but you should still follow the mid game plan of shadowing a side laner. Otherwise you can look for team fights if you have an ally that can help guarantee that your W lands.
