Kayle Build Guide

Kayle

Kayle

the Righteous

Overview

Sister to Morgana, Kayle is very different from Morgana, who is useful from as early as level 1, as Kayle evolves from one of the weakest earliest champions in the game into a late game powerhouse once all of her abilities are upgraded. She’s a terrific scaling pick when you find yourself in a draft where the game is likely to go long. Keys to Remember About Kayle

  1. While you can start contributing to the team at level 11, you'll still be underpowered. You really need level 16 for it to feel like you have true impact on the outcome of the game, so you should heavily prioritize farming and getting levels as opposed to roaming aimlessly with your team.

  2. It can be enticing to use your Divine Judgment [R] to save an ally in late game fights, but sometimes it's better to let them die so you can save the ultimate for yourself. You have 1v5 potential and only need to be wary of being CCed and burst down before you can dish out your damage.

Strengths

One of the strongest late game champions thanks to her Divine Ascent [P] which gives her new power spikes at each ultimate interval (levels 6, 11, and 16). If you’re able to reach that stage of the game in a game state that isn’t completely out of control (and sometimes even in those situations), Kayle can become the win condition for your team thanks to how much damage she can bring to a fight. Divine Judgment [R] will make it extra hard for enemies to kill you, and it can also be used to shield stronger allies in the earlier portions of the game to keep your team in it.

Weaknesses

She is extremely weak in the early game, and her mid game isn’t anything to write home about either. The nature of Solo Queue, as you may know, is that many games are decided rather early because of player mentality and because of how quickly games can snowball out of control. This means going 0-0-0 and farming well in your lane can come to mean nothing if the enemy team snowballs dragons and towers out of control before you come online.

Game Plan

  1. Early Game: Do your best to farm -- you may be able to bait the enemy into a gankable position for your jungler to come snatch them up, but you yourself do not have great 1v1 potential.

  2. Mid Game: You should still be split pushing in a side lane to gain as much experience as possible. Your whole goal is to power level straight to 16 without delay.

  3. Late Game: Once you’re level 16, you can finally contribute in meaningful ways to the game -- this means you should be looking for team fights, and you should play them as if you are the most important person in the room (because you generally are). It’s fine to save your ultimate for yourself.
