Overview
If you need a crash course in politics, then perhaps you can look into playing Mel Medarda, the first character from Arcane to be converted into a champion for League of Legends. She’s a mage with great range, with the ability to slowly chip opponents into lethal range for her ultimate to execute them. Keys to Remember About Mel
Mel's most game-changing ability is her Rebuttal [W], which requires you to have good knowledge of what every other champion is capable of so you can properly choose which spell to try to reflect and which ones you should (or need to) avoid.
While her ultimate executes enemies, that doesn't mean you should be committing to every fight you see -- she needs to whittle opponents down from afar and then go in for the kill.
Strengths
Mel’s abilities can be used from a safe range, and they can be difficult for enemies to consistently evade, which makes it easier for you to focus on other things like CSing or dodging return fire. This is amplified by her being able to spam her abilities with ease, and with a root in Solar Snare [E], she can easily set up ganks for her jungler or for her own all-in to try to kill enemies who take too much chip damage. Her most unique ability is Rebuttal [W], which instantly reflects an enemy projectile back at them -- catching a big ability from enemies can surprise them and single handedly win you fights.
Weaknesses
She is a fairly squishy champion, especially if her Solar Snare [E] is down, which means enemies with high mobility can look to abuse her or threaten all-ins, as she wants to poke before committing to a fight. Champions like Blitzcrank and Leona also naturally counter her Rebuttal [W], as they will bring Mel right next to them, and it can be hard to not press your W key out of instinct. Golden Eclipse [R] is a powerful tool to execute enemies, but it quires you to first hit your other abilities, which means it lacks the immediate threat of an ultimate that many other mages bring to the table.
Game Plan
Early Game: Focus on farming while harassing your opposing laner with your Radiant Volley [Q] -- it’s okay to let them push you in, though, as you can threaten a root with Solar Snare [E] to help out on a gank.
Mid Game: Your job is to manage waves wherever your team needs you to be, but come fights you’ll want to poke as much as possible before it actually begins so that your ultimate has value. Look to save your Rebuttal [W] for a key ultimate.
Late Game: The game plan doesn’t change much from mid game, though you should have a lot more damage at this point. A big W can win the game for your team.
