Sion Build Guide

Sion

Sion

The Undead Juggernaut

Overview

A champion most famously associated with Thebausffs, Sion has become a sort of rallying point for tank tops who just want to AFK and split push. Sometimes this results in healthy gameplay and sometimes it results in an 0-10 Sion that does nothing for your team. Either way, his core identity as an extremely tanky champion is unchanged. Keys to Remember About Sion

  1. Just because you see another Sion proxy waves and permanently split push doesn't mean you have to do it, too. In fact, it is more consistent and reliable to... well... not die. You can just play the lane normally and be a tank in fights. You are allowed to group. You can do it.

  2. Unstoppable Onslaught [R] can be used as a mobility ability -- especially early in the game, it may be better to use this to get back to lane rather than using your Teleport (or you can use it if your TP is down).

Strengths

Glory in Death [P] is one of the key reasons that players sometimes choose to proxy farming with Sion -- they’re okay with dying because they can clear the wave with this passive, which means that by the time they respawn, they can still run back to lane and catch the next wave. It draws a lot of pressure to his lane without sacrificing EXP, which means he can often come out ahead in terms of gold thanks to having better farm and pressure on the enemy turret. In fights, he’s very dangerous when he’s able to tuck into a bush or find any angle out of vision as he can turn around and knock up multiple people with Roar of the Slayer [E]. This can also be used after engaging with Unstoppable Onslaught [R], which literally comes at enemies like a freight train.

Weaknesses

Once he has used his ultimate, there’s not much he can do to get onto his opponents. Roar of the Slayer [E] is much less reliable when fights break out in areas without minions, and if opponents are aware of what you can do, they can constantly sit on the edge of your range and whittle you down. Even if your passive is popped, they can simply walk away from it. And a lot of his tricks rely on vision denial, so if you end up taking fights in an area that’s lit up, it can be really hard to find value on your abilities.

Game Plan

  1. Early Game: Look to farm as you don’t have a great way to force enemies to fight you. You can trade, but it’s going to be hard to secure a kill without your ultimate.

  2. Mid Game: He should be a big split push threat at this point in the game, as he has both Teleport and Unstoppable Onslaught [R] to help him join fights from afar.

  3. Late Game: You’ll be extremely difficult to kill at this point in the game even if you yourself don’t have much kill pressure. Your goal is to create disruption in fights, but it’s okay to position yourself between enemy carries and their tanks, and then help chip away at their tanks as you sponge the damage.
