Talon Build Guide

Talon

Talon

the Blade's Shadow

Overview

One of the strongest assassins in the game, Talon is a champion that sat in mid lane for the longest time before making the transition to being a jungler more recently. He’s extremely good at securing kills at all phases in the game, and in the hands of an experienced player, he’s also extremely hard to kill thanks to being able to parkour over walls. Keys to Remember About Talon

  1. He's one of the most mobile champions in the the game when it comes to traversing the map thanks to his Assassin's Path [E], but because you cannot immediately hop back over a wall you just used, you'll need to be smart about how you approach enemies so that you have a fall back plan if needed. Otherwise you should be ready to commit your life to the cause, which is also fine.

  2. Blade's End [P] means you can do the whole "Cool guys don't look at explosions" schtick with Talon to maximize your edge lord role play -- knowing when you've done enough damage for the kill and can simply back away can be the difference between you living or surviving!

Strengths

Assassin’s Path [E] allows you to jump over all sorts of terrain, which means you can have some extremely creative pathing that will allow you to catch enemies off guard. If you are someone who has a good sense for where common warding spots are, this will allow you to circumvent them so you can sneak behind an opponent for an easy flank. So his kit isn’t amazing at ganks early, he’s able to consistently get into good positions for them, which in turn makes him a strong early ganker. Come mid and late game, his Shadow Assault [R] can feel like an instant kill button to enemies, especially if he’s able to snowball early leads.

Weaknesses

Like many assassins, if he uses his entire kit and isn’t able to kill his target, then he becomes a bit of a sitting duck. This is especially true for him because he’s a melee champion, and while he can vault over walls to get away, if he’s caught on one that he has already recently used, he’ll just be locked down and killed. This means he’ll really struggle in games where he’s unable to get ahead early, and he’ll also struggle against teams that are lacking in squishy targets to pick off. And once enemies start to group up, it’ll be increasingly hard for him to find pockets to flank from, thus limiting his kill potential greatly.

Game Plan

  1. Early Game: Look to use your mobility to secure early gank paths on extended enemies -- this may also let you look for the opposing jungler, and if you’re able to catch them off guard while they’re fighting a jungle camp, it could swing into a kill for you.

  2. Mid Game: You have a lot of kill pressure at this point and should be constantly trying to catch isolated enemies as they move around the map.

  3. Late Game: You’ll need to be patient to be able to find picks on enemy carries -- typically this means you’ll have to follow up on what your team is doing rather than trying to start a fight by yourself.
