Fizz Build Guide

Fizz Build Guide

Overview

Here is the concept: a fish… that stabs people. Fizz is a mid lane assassin that is best known for being extremely slippery (like a fish) and having a large engage range thanks to his ultimate allowing him to literally throw a shark at you. Honestly, whoever made Fizz at Riot was cooking and we should let them cook even harder. Click here for the latest data on his best builds, including Runes, Items, Summoner Spells, and more.

Keys to Remember About Fizz

  1. Fizz needs to secure kills early to help him stay relevant as the game progresses -- you have huge engage range and should constantly be trying to land Chum the Waters [R], which is best shot from fog of war or from close range after closing the gap with your Q and E.

  2. Late game, Playful Trickster [E] is going to be better served as a defensive tool (or even better, if you're able to simultaneously dodge an enemy ability while landing on them to deal damage) -- you can hop over walls to safety after securing a kill with your Urchin Strike [Q] and ultimate.

Strengths

Playful Trickster [E]  is the bread and butter of Fizz’s kit, as it is the single ability that opponents need to be wary of at all times. It’s his sole defensive tool as it allows him to easily dodge enemy skills (and entirely wasting their cooldown), but it can also be used offensively to both close the gap and deal a great amount of damage. And it also doubles as is the primary form of wave clear -- this makes proper use of the ability and knowing when you can use it and for what purpose are the keys to mastering Fizz. He has excellent engage range thanks to Urchin Strike [Q] and Playful Trickster [E] both offering gap close potential to help land his ultimate, Chum the Waters [R], which can also be thrown from long range. All of this makes him one of the deadliest champions in the game for squishy champions to deal with.

Weaknesses

Fizz is a weak champion early -- especially in lane phase -- which is amplified by being a melee champion in mid lane. This means he’s extremely prone to being harassed early, so he’ll need to play as safe as possible just to farm CS early on. But like most assassins, if he’s unable to secure kills once his ultimate is online, then he’s going to be outscaled once he starts struggling to kill his targets -- if he’s super behind, he might not be able to kill them at all. Enemies also just need to watch for his Playful Trickster [E] -- if they wait for that ability to be on cooldown, they can instantly turn on him.

Game Plan

  1. Early Game: Farm as much as possible -- it’s very easy to CS with Fizz thanks to Seastone Trident [W], and he can trade decently thanks to Playful Trickster [E].

  2. Mid Game: Once his ultimate is online, as long as he’s able to land it on a squishy enemy champion, they should die. It makes it very easy to follow up and hit the rest of his abilities. Look to skirmish as often as possible.

  3. Late Game: Continue to secure vision control in the jungle as you will need to find flank angles and wait for enemies to walk into you to maximize your potential. Fizz is great at killing opponents at this stage without Playful Trickster [E], which means you can use it to escape after securing the kill.
