Overview
If throwing bananas is your favorite thing to do in Mario Kart (or IRL… if you’re a psycho…) then look no further than the greatest healer in League of Legends. Soraka is an ambulance with a global heal to pair with a regular heal, which can turn a lot of those close fights strictly in your favor. Keys to Remember About Soraka
- Soraka kind of has a global taunt on her in that people in every game ever have learned that you should target the healer first -- that means you should be playing behind your carries in the late game so that you can keep them alive when they get jumped on.
- Soraka's ult has global range, so you should always be watching your allies on the mini-map to see when they're about to fight -- a well-timed ult can change a fight on the other side of map.
Strengths
Heals. Heals. And… that’s right, deadly bananas. Soraka brings unmatched sustain to the lane phase, which means she pairs really well with aggressive carries who can toe the fine line between trading and getting caught by a hook and dying. If you’re able to take a couple of trades and then fall back, Soraka’s sustain and poke with Starfall can secure good advantages in lane. This remains true throughout the game -- poke situations are great for her, so you can out-sustain teams in drawn out engagements.
Weaknesses
She’s very squishy, so even if she’s caught even a little out of position, she’s as good dead. This is true even in the lane phase -- teams will know that they cannot outsustain her, so they’ll be looking to all-in you as soon as possible. Soraka is much better served when she can heal the frontload of damage onto her carry and then play up more to get the opponent to switch to her in a 2v2 fight. That said, she’ll be a primary target for most anyone once mid and late game roll around -- be sure to position safely because they’ll be thirsting for you!
Game Plan
- Early Game: Your goal is to trade a couple of auto-attacks and abilities before backing off. Soraka can heal everyone back up and then you can repeat this pattern. It’s hard to force a kill as there’s no real lockdown, so your best bet for fights is getting the opponent to commit onto you once you’ve already built a health advantage.
- Mid Game: Always be ready to use your ult -- it can flip a fight on the other side of the map if the enemy team isn’t ready for it. Your goal is to follow your carries around and be ready to support them from behind in a fight.
- Late Game: Soraka should be played like a carry -- you definitely want to be one of the last people to die in a fight. As long as you have mana and can stay on the battlefield to heal them, your team will have a lot of options, including dangerous neutral objectives so long as you’re able to push the enemies away.
