Heimerdinger Build Guide

Heimerdinger Build Guide

Overview

The genius from Arcane, Heimerdinger is a champion that is a lot smarter than his name sounds (and his name sounds a lot like a joke!). He’s one of the deadliest champions in the game to gank, thanks to his ability to fortify his position with turrets that can quickly turn a bad situation in his favor. He brings a unique playstyle and kit to the rift that will be rewarding to master. Click here for the latest data on his best builds, including Runes, Items, Summoner Spells, and more.

Keys to Remember About Heimerdinger

  1. Stand and deliver! Heimerdinger is extremely difficult to gank thanks to his upgraded turret providing immense combat power -- especially with your limited mobility, if trouble comes, it may be better to try to bite back!

  2. The upgraded turret is extremely powerful and will likely be the ability you choose to upgrade the most throughout the game, but there are plenty of instances where an AoE stun or long range missile will be better -- don't limit yourself to waiting for enemies to jump on you!

Strengths

It is extremely difficult to walk into a Heimerdinger that has already set up his turrets. There’s a ton of damage he can do -- even after death (thanks to his turrets) -- that can completely turn a fight around. This allows him to play fairly aggressively and push forward in lane, especially after level 6 gives him his Upgrade!!! [R]. But he doesn’t actually need to walk up that far -- being a ranged champion with access to a long range ability in Hextech Micro-Rockets [W] gives him the option to both farm and poke from afar. Heimer can typically chunk out his enemy laner to discourage enemy junglers from ganking him. Upgrade!!! [R] is extremely versatile, but in general you want to use it on your H-28 G Evolution Turret [Q] whenever you’re fighting multiple enemies by yourself, on your [W] when you need to finish opponents who are running, or CH-2 Electron Storm Grenade [E] when you want to open a fight with a multi person stun.

Weaknesses

Heimerdinger is most vulnerable when he’s in transit -- you can force him to drop an emergency turret and back off (or outright kill him if he doesn’t expect you to be there). This means that team fights can also be a little awkward for him, as where a fight begins can often be very different from where a fight ends -- the more it moves throughout the course of the engagement, the worse it is for Heimerdinger, as he cannot easily reposition his turret. And if you’re able to poke at his turret from afar and take it down, then he’s just an immobile caster that is ripe for picking.

Game Plan

  1. Early Game: He’s a ranged champion with a lot of damage and zone control -- this makes him a great early game bully, though he’ll need to be sure he can actually 1v2 before overextending on pushes.

  2. Mid Game: You can continue to split push fairly easily at this point in the game -- the best Heimerdinger players are going to always welcome the opportunity to outplay enemies in odd numbered situations. Even being able to trade your life for another is fine if they are forced to bring too many to your side.

  3. Late Game: At this point in the game, your turret will deal a ton of damage to enemies if they are unfortunate enough to be near it -- much of your success will depend on how accurately you can gauge where the center of the fight will take place.
